Daily recaps 141-145

I worked every day this week.

I also read Homestuck every day. Doing my best to try to catch up. I think it’s possible I will succeed one day. Just finished Act 3. It was amazing.

Other things I did:

  • Played Skylanders.
  • Read comic books.
  • Band practice.

Etc.

My life is boring.

Daily recaps 137-140

Thursday:

  • Work.
  • I don’t know.

Friday:

  • Work.
  • It’s been a really frustrating, stressful and stupid week.
  • Walked around aimlessly like an idiot after work. Ate a Hungarian sausage sandwich.

Saturday:

  • Wasted most of the day doing nothing productive.
  • Watched first two episodes of Legend of Korra with brad-t and his girlfriend. I posted some thoughts about the show on Facebook. I guess I could post them here too.
  • Also watched the first episode of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, a demented Japanese series that’s kind of like Sailor Moon on acid? My knowledge of anime is pretty limited, so I’m sure there are better/more appropriate ways of describing it. But the point is I liked it and I want to watch the full 12-part series now.

Sunday:

  • It was beautiful outside and I should’ve probably spent the day out.
  • But instead I played Skylanders all day.
  • Well, I also worked a little bit on my solo set for a show I’m playing in two weeks.

Daily recaps 128-133

Crap. I fucked up again.

Thursday:

  • Work.
  • Got a haircut.
  • Dinner with J. at Nouveau Palais. Delicious fish.

Friday:

  • Day off, because of some religious holiday.
  • Stayed home most of the afternoon. Was planning to make some music but spent half my time running into stupid computer problems and trying to figure out Logic’s user interface.
  • Spent the other half of that time playing video games.
  • Recorded a very stupid song, out of sheer frustration.
  • Went back to the comic book store to exchange some comics.
  • Met up with J. downtown. Had coffee.
  • Went back home. Don’t remember what happened after that.

Saturday:

  • This time instead of fucking around in Logic trying to figure it out on my own, I decided to just watch about 15 tutorial videos on YouTube. They were very helpful and the guy giving the tutorials was kinda cute.
  • Probably played some video games. Ever since I finished Mass Effect 2, I’ve been aimlessly playing random shit, trying to find something as good or satisfying. I guess I’m going to have to buy Mass Effect 3, because nothing else is able to fill that void.

Sunday:

  • Spent the afternoon with my sister and nephew. Pho for lunch. Then walked around downtown like a bunch of loser tourists.
  • Dinner with family. Fun.

Monday:

  • Back to work.
  • Stress.
  • Did absolutely nothing this evening. Oh, I started watching Full Metal Alchemist on Netflix. I don’t even like it very much, but there’s nothing else on Netflix I feel like watching.

Daily recap 127

Today:

  • Work.
  • Read all of Any Empire by Nate Powell on the way to and from work. Good book, but I think I need to give it a second read to fully appreciate it.
  • Met a couple of friends downtown to go eat at Kazu. This was the longest I’ve ever had to wait at Kazu. About an hour in total. For any other restaurant in the city, that would be totally unacceptable and I would have given up and gone somewhere else. But Kazu is worth it. I ate too much and felt kind of sick after, but I made some peppermint tea when I got home and that helped. 
  • Picked up some new comics, but haven’t had time to read them. Pretty excited about the Flex Mentallo collection.
  • Played a bit of Closure. I still think it’s a great concept and I love the pure black and white and the play with light, but I think I’m getting really sick of pure puzzle games. I like games that have some puzzle element to them, but I need more now.

Daily recaps 125-126

Yesterday:

  • Work.
  • Downloaded and played a game called “Closure”. Fun puzzle game, but a bit repetitive. Not sure it was worth the 15 bucks. Very cool concept, though. Brilliant use of light and shadows.
  • Decided to read nothing but comics all week, in order to try to make a dent in my giant pile of unread comics. I’ll write about the comics I read in a separate post.

Today:

  • Work. Goddam fucking meeting from hell.
  • Was not at all stoked about having to go to band practice after work. Felt tired and just wanted to stay home and, I don’t know, jerk off or something. But I went and it turned out to be a pretty good practice. Getting excited about some of the new songs.
  • More reading of comics.
  • No time for video games. :(

Daily… uh, weekly recap? (117-124)

Shit, I totally forgot to do any daily recaps for a whole week. There’s no way I can remember in detail everything I did over the past eight days, so here are some highlights:

  • Work. I had a very unproductive week, actually. Wasn’t super busy and had a hard time concentrating. I’m sure things are going to pick up again soon, which is good because I’d much rather be busy than bored.
  • Played a lot of Mass Effect 2 and finished it today (Sunday). I might post some thoughts on that later.
  • Read some comics. Might have some thoughts on that too.
  • Started playing around with Logic and it’s kind of frustrating. Not that it’s a bad software. I’m just so used to doing things differently in Ableton and even the simplest things require me to unlearn and relearn everything. It’s really slowing me down a lot. I would already have started working on my next project by now if I didn’t have to start over from scratch like a beginner.
  • I got into a stupid argument with someone on tumblr over the definition of gender and it made me really fucking depressed. More so than it should have. I don’t know why I let these things get to me so much.
  • I don’t know. I’m sure there was a lot of other awesome exciting things that happened. I just can’t remember them. (Yeah, right.)

I’m going to try to get back into the habit of actually writing these daily updates daily.

Daily recaps 114-116

Thursday:

  • I don’t remember what I did that day.
  • Probably went to work.
  • Probably played Mass Effect 2.

Friday:

  • Work.
  • Finally got in touch with my father on the phone. First conversation in almost two years. Not the best of circumstances for it. But all things considered it went well. Things are not okay yet, but at least we’re communicating.
  • Watched a couple of episodes of Buffy.

Saturday:

  • Lazy morning.
  • French toast with maple syrup.
  • Went shopping.
  • Bought a couple of Skylander figs.
  • Bought a new audio interface for my home studio. Finally will be able to start recording again.
  • Almost bought a hundred-dollar bottle of Scotch I’ve been eyeing for months. I know it’s going to happen soon. But I resisted the temptation yet again this time.
  • Shoes will have to wait. Next paycheck.
  • Dinner with a friend at Sumo Ramen. Very delicious, but we ordered too much food.
  • Picked up some Chinese pastries on the way back home. Those egg tarts are like a drug.
  • After some messing around online, I tried to watch the last two episodes of Buffy S3, but I was really tired and fell asleep.

Daily recaps 112-113

Tuesday:

  • Work.
  • Was supposed to go to band practice, but instead spoke to family members on the phone. Got an update on my father’s situation. A small sliver of hope.
  • Watched an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Maybe two?

Wednesday:

  • My roommate informed me in the morning that our neighbours were hanging meat on our shared back balcony. I took a picture to show the landlord and let him decide how to deal with this. This is disgusting and probably violates some city health regulation.
  • Work.
  • Picked up some comics at the store.
  • Got some delicious sushi on the way back home.
  • Ate delicious sushi.
  • Played Mass Effect 2. So good.

Daily recap 111

Today:

  • Back to work. I was surprised at how productive I was considering (a) how my mind is still filled with all the family shit going on right now, and (b) how ridiculously hot it was in the office, to the point where I thought I was going to faint at one point.
  • Endless phone calls. From stepmother, from lawyer, from stepmother again, from stepbrother, from mother. I just want to stop thinking about it for a moment, but there’s always stuff to talk about and try to figure out and report on and try to find out more. Meanwhile ZERO FUCKING INFORMATION coming from the source.
  • I’m sorry. I know none  of this makes any sense. I need to put this out there even if I don’t want to be more specific. Things are just fucked. And I don’t know how much of it is just blown out of proportion by everyone and how much of it is real.
  • Most importantly, I don’t know what to do.
  • I did read a comic book, though. And it was very good. Saga #1, by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples.
  • I also played Mass Effect 2. I almost made it out of the collector ship, but I got killed by the fucking praetorian. I hate those guys.
  • In a way I feel like either Mass Effect 2 is a reflection of my life or my life is a reflection of Mass Effect 2. 
  • That might have been a ridiculous thing to say.
